Where did all of your new Facebook friends come from all of a sudden?

So Facebook has always told you the friend limit is 5000. But now all of a sudden you have 5500 friends!. How can that be? Well, some of your friends have chosen to deactivate their accounts but FB has now decided to count them as friends anyway. Now you can’t add any more friends until you’re back under the 5000 limit, but you don’t want to delete the friends you currently have, right?

Well, here’s the EASY, BUT TIME CONSUMING FIX: You can scroll through your friend list and see which friends have no profile pic, click on their name and the screen below will pop up which says they have deactivated their profile, then you can choose to unfriend them by clicking on “unfriend **name**”.

Obviously I had some time to kill and did about 100 today…will work on some more another time. 😉

Control what you see on your Facebook news feed

If you feel like you’re not seeing the status of some of your friends posts, you’re probably not.

Have you noticed that you are only seeing updates in your newsfeed from the same people lately? Have you also noticed that when you post things like status messages, photos and links, the same circle of people are commenting and everyone else seems to be ignoring you? Don’t worry, everyone still loves you and nobody has intentionally blocked you. The problem is that a large chunk of your friend/fan list can’t see anything you post and here’s why:

The “New Facebook” has a newsfeed setting that by default is automatically set to show ONLY posts from people who you’ve recently interacted with or interacted the most with. So in other words, for both business and personal pages, unless your friends/fans commented on one of your posts within those few weeks or vice versa – you are now invisible to them and they are invisible to you!!

HERE’S THE FIX:  Check up near the top of your news feed where it says sort. You can check “highlighted stories first” or “recent stories first”. Then let your friends know to do the same!

Here’s the complete Facebook Help tutorial: http://www.facebook.com/help/?faq=218728138156311

One more tip: You can also control your “highlights” by clicking the top right corner of each story. You can add or remove highlights from a story, basically telling Facebook what is important to you. If you see something that is not interesting and is marked as a highlighted story, hover over the right side of the update and click the arrow that reads “Remove Highlight” from the menu.

“… love what you do”

“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don’t settle”. — Steve Jobs, Excerpt from 2005 Stanford University Commencement

My sentiments exactly. What an inspiration!  RIP Mr. Jobs.

Please take the time to read the complete prepared text and/or watch the video of the Stanford University Commencement address delivered by Steve Jobs. It’s a very inspirational speech. Click the following link: http://news.stanford.edu/news/2005/june15/jobs-061505.html

Tip: Address Your Business Mailings with “Current Resident”

Postage on a package

Have you done a large mailing and found that much of your mail was returned to you undeliverable? Or worse yet, have you mailed bulk rate and no mail was returned to you, but you didn’t see much of a response either? It’s very likely that had something to do with the addressing of your mailpiece.

Undeliverable bulk rate mail will not be returned to you unless you pay for the service. First Class mail will be forwarded for one year, after which time the mail will be returned to the sender. In each case, you could be losing money on postage.

Sometimes it’s not important that your mailpiece reaches a specific customer, just that it reaches an address. One way to do this is to use a generic title such as “Postal Customer” or “Occupant” or “Resident,” rather than a name, plus the complete address. This ensures that the mailpiece is delivered to the address of mailing without the cost of the postage going down the drain if the person it was addressed to has moved.

For more addressing tips, visit the USPS website.
